it's all about the prelude before the conversation. You need to tell it what the AI is and is not capable. It's not trying to be right, it's trying to complete what it thinks the AI would do :)

hey can you explain to me why all of the AI dungeon examples getting posted include prompt text that is written in second person? this is totally unlike any standard text adventure input syntax i have ever seen and i am bewildered

The user types in typical text adventure syntax (“go north”). AI Dungeon just prepends “you” (“you go north”), so both commands and narration are in 2nd person, which is presumably easier on the AI.

I tried to recreate it again to check how well it replicates. General context prompt ends in the line 'You say "So, f(x)=x*x".'. You might need to tweak the temperature to make the math more consistent.
