My favorite thing about announcing @skittishHQ is doing interviews inside it. I gave some very nice writers at The Verge a little tour yesterday, and they just wrote about it. theverge.com/2021/2/17/22286…

Something not mentioned in that article is that *dozens* of projects are experimenting with proximity/spatial chat right now, almost all launched since the pandemic. @GretchenAMcC wrote about this trend back in November for Wired.
Zoom meetings and book clubs and coffee dates are fine. But unstructured Zoom parties are still so painfully awkward.
Surely we can do better?
I wrote for @WIRED about how to make virtual parties feel real, just in time for the holidays

I mentioned @likelikearcade and @roguelike_con in the @verge interview, but I also really love getmibo.com, rambly.app, gather.town, here.fm, and cozyroom.xyz. There's a growing list here: github.com/billmei/every-pro…

But the pandemic made it a sudden urgent need, as we're all looking to connect to each other in ways we can't safely do now. I think it'll end up being a powerful way to bring people together even after the pandemic recedes, which is why I started working on my own!
